Everyone knows of the story of Romeo and Juliet. I thought this would just be a simple love story in play format, boy was I wrong. It is almost like reading in a unknown foreign language, I have read act 1 3 times already and am just now getting a hang of this "Elizabethan" wording. Although it is difficult to understand, it does have a good and interesting story line. Much of the conflict in Act 1 is highlighted by my character, Benvolio.

Benvolio plays a role as Romeo wing man. He seems very caring and compassionate and like an all around good person. In the beginning, during the fight between the Capulet and Montague, he says,"I'd but keep the peace. Put up thy sword, or manage to part these men with me." Benvolio does not care whether Montague or Capulet, all he cares about is keeping the peace, which shows how genuine and kind he is. Anther part where he shows great quality traits is when he says," Have you importuned him by any means?" I think this shows a quality trait of concern for his friend who is feeling down in the dumps, about his love life. Benvolio then p

roceeds to help his friend by getting him out and to a party where Romeo can get over his broken heart. That is practically the definition of a wing man.

This reading has actually allowed me to pick up on many Shakespeare quotes outside of school. This is good because Shakespeare is the second most quoted author in history, so now i can fully understand what someone is trying to say.
