Purpose Project

It is sad to think that people can go through life thinking of themselves in the worst way possible. Picking out flaws and blemishes that nobody else would notice, and creating a image of something ugly and unwanted. Self esteem is something I know many people struggle with including some of my closest friends. It is almost impossible to always think of your self in the highest way, when you go on social media and images of these flawless people with perfect bodies flood your feed. That is who we are all forced to compare ourselves to.

The purpose project is a project that is entirely up to us. It allows to use creativity to create something that is important to us. A great finish to the end of our gifted english classes. My first impressions were somewhat skeptical, could we honestly find a topic to research and study that we could find purpose in? Was this just another pointless project we were given as part of the school systems curriculum? (#doschooldifferently) I immediately thought of the two things I love most(besides my family) animals and my friends. How could I do a purpose project on either of those two things within the limits and time constraints we were given? I thought, and thought, and finally, came up with a concept. We decided to design a study where we would give a compliment to a total stranger and then film there reaction to it. We would be able to track and research the affects of positivity on other people, while at the same time possibly improving the lives of our peers. Passion drives this project because of its ability to change someones life in such a large way, and just a few words. We decided it was better to give a compliment face to face instead of over social media or another technological way, as face to face interactions seems to be more powerful and sincere.

Words can have a huge impact on someone, so during the trials we need to be careful in choosing the right words for our compliment, in order for us to have the positive affect we are looking for. Words can do just as much damage as they can do good, and knowing some people they may take an honest and genuine compliment and turn it in to something negative.
