Review of the Year

At the beginning of the year, I was a student. Simple as that. I cared about the grade, not the work itself. As long as it came with the big “A” stamped across it, it was a win in my mind. That would all change.

As I handed in one of my essays, I thought to myself,”Wow, Julia, you got your essay done in less than two hours, and it is not even THAT bad”. I was surprised when I got back my essay and it had a big fat 75% written across it. I was devastated. I had never gotten anything less than an A on an essay, and I’m not going to lie, it hurt. I turned in my next essay not changing any of my process, and again I received a C. That was when I went back to the basics. I changed through hard work and interaction. I was determined to do better. When peer reviewing I would listen carefully to the input they had about my piece. Then using this new knowledge along with hard work, I would make my essay the best it could be. Changing myself from a student, to a writer. This class made me the writer I am today. I am still a long way from perfection, although I believe perfection is an abstract concept in writing, I think I am finally on the right track.

Another lesson I learned was about procrastination. It is just not possible to make an essay as good as it can be, when you wait to the last moment to start, and I am speaking from experience. I have learn to start and prepare my work well before the due date because procrastination equals mediocrity.

Both of these lessons have helped my improve my work this year and help me excel in high school.
